How You Can Do Domain Name Check

By Steve Cunningham

If you want to set up your own website or blog, you will need a domain name. Choosing the right name for your website is important, especially if you are setting it up as a business and are hoping to make money and develop a customer base. It will be important, therefore, for you to do a domain name check to make sure that the Internet address you want is available.

Conducting a check is really very basic and there are a couple of ways of making sure that an address is available. Possibly the easiest way of doing so is simply by typing in the desired address into your web browser. For example, if you were setting up a website in the muscle-building niche market and you wanted a URL called www.muscle-building-magic.com you could simply type this into your browser to see if anything comes up. If nothing comes up, then the address may well be available.

When you purchase your URL you will need to choose an authorized registrar, such as GoDaddy. Spend some time searching on the Internet for authorized registrars from which you could make your purchase. Once you have your list, visit any one of these websites, type in your desired name, and you will find out whether or not it is available.

You need to remember that there are a variety of different endings that you can include on your URL. The most popular, and generally the most powerful for search engine optimization purposes, will be dot com. However, if a dot com is not available you may want to consider whether a dot net, dot biz or dot org is on offer.

If you have a specific domain that you really want to purchase and the dot com is unavailable, it may well be worth it to choose an alternative ending. This is particularly the case if you are only setting up a casual website.

As mentioned, there are several different registrars that you could use and it would, therefore, be a good idea for you to do some research into the different options. The primary reason for doing this is simply to make sure that you get the best price. Depending upon the ending of the address, and how long you purchase the URL for, prices are likely to fluctuate significantly.

If, for example, you did use GoDaddy as your registrar, you would usually find that an address ending in dot com will set you back roughly $10-$15 for a year. If you purchase it for two years, it is usually more cost effective. It is generally the case that the longer you purchase the domain for, the cheaper it will be per year.

Choosing the right title for your website and business is always important. It is, therefore, a good idea for you to spend some time conducting a domain name check and working out which particular domain name will perfectly sum up you and your Internet presence. Before you get overly excited with your choice, however, always check to see that the address is available so that you are not left disappointed.
