Search Engine Optimization - How to Choose Your Consultant

Like most webmasters, once we have built a website and posted unique content on it, we sit back and wait for the income. Unfortunately for most, this does not come to fruition and you ask yourself "How do I get people to visit my site?" After talking on forums and to other webmasters, you keep hearing the words "You need better SEO." Search Engine Optimization is the key to having a successful website but who do you choose to use to do it? Most people especially the older generation are used to interviews being conducted face to face. You not only hear what they are telling you about their qualifications but can also make a judgement by watching their body language. It was the only way a job or project was appointed. These days, especially if the project relates to websites, interviews are conducted online and you may never see the person you are thinking of employing, as they quite likely live in another country. You feel you are at an immediate disadvantage because there is no eye contact and you will find it hard to verify their qualifications. Here are some points to help you choose your new SEO consultant. 1. Do not be afraid to ask questions and as many as you feel necessary. Do not regret not having asked an important point. 2. Do not assume they are going to do something unless you make sure they include it in their work sheet before payment is made 3. What they are telling you may be true but ask them to give you examples of their work and if possible an email address of a previous client. 4. Be specific about what you need of them and ask them what approach they will make to fulfil these requirements. 5. Ask for a detailed quote and if it seems excessive for your needs, negotiate. 6. Ask how long it will be after they have applied SEO for you to see results. 7. Request regular progress reports, be emailed to you once the project is underway. These points will certainly help you decide, first if you want to go ahead with the project and secondly if you are going to secure the services of this particular person. If you feel you could do better after all these questions have been answered, just tell this person you will get back to them if you decide to go ahead. Remember, this is your website and your money that is involved so make sure you are in control. Add to Technorati Favorites Bookmark and Share
